Question # 049
During flight can we perform nafil namaz sitting on our seat
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
In regards to nafil (optional) prayers, sitting is allowed even without a reason. However, one will not receive the same rewards as standing (if sitting without a reason). However, during a flight, it would be better that one remains busy in dhikr (remembrance of Allah), recitation of Quran, or reading Islamic books etc. This is because during flights, it may be difficult to pray nawaafil in the right times (and avoid times where it is impermissible to pray), and to locate the Qiblah.
Therefore, during a flight it would be better to engage in other worships.
