Scarborough Muslim Association (SMA) is a faith community based multicultural, multi-service organization, which offers a broad range of programs to serve Toronto Muslims and other communities through strengthening the quality of individual and community life for people of all ages.

 

Program Summary

The Summer Camp Program offers a wide range of activities catering to children from grades K-8, and interests, including sports, arts and crafts, educational workshops, and trips. The program is designed to provide a fun and safe environment for children to learn, grow, and make new friends while also strengthening their connection to their faith. With experienced and dedicated staff, and a well-planned curriculum, the SMA Summer Camp Program promises to be an enriching and memorable experience for all participants.

 

Position Summary

As the Summer Camp counsellor, you will be responsible for the well-being and safety of children during camp activities as well as for creating a safe, fun, and rewarding environment for them.

 

This position's responsibilities include creating, organizing, and coordinating engaging activities for young campers, brainstorming and/or developing new programs, implementing and carrying out camp rules, offering emotional support, and supervising children. Counsellors must ensure children participating in the camp are safe, engaged, and having fun at all times while providing a positive attitude and comforting environment for young learners to excel and feel encouraged to learn new skills for their academic success.

In addition to the above, Key responsibilities are as follows:

  • Lead group activities and team-building exercises Develop and implement daily schedules and plans

  • Communicate with campers, parents, and other staff members as necessary

  • Lead groups on field trips or other venues for activities if necessary

  • Attend periodic staff meetings and participate in ongoing training sessions

  • Manage disciplinary issues and conflicts that may arise

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all spaces

  • Prepare and serve snacks and meals to campers

  • Provide First Aid or CPR when necessary

  • Ensure compliance with all camp policies and procedures

  • Other duties as assigned by the Camp Coordinator

 

An ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

  • Fluent in English and other languages

  • CPR + AED certification

  • Prior experience working with children

  • Experience working in an educational environment

  • Strong communication skill, especially when communicating with parents, staff, and children

  • Ability to motivate children towards learning new skills

  • Experienced in teamwork and able to demonstrate responsible, ethical, and professional conduc
