Question # 051
Assalamu Alaikom, I would like to know if it’s permissible to uncover hair in order to receive treatment by a male doctor/technician. Due to excessive and continuous hair thinning I have the option to have a treatment that can resolve this issue (inshallah), but the person specialized in performing this procedure is a male. Pease advise. Jazakom Allah khair
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
May Allah (swt) reward you for your concern and grant you shifaa. Ameen.
Due to this treatment being a cosmetic procedure, it will not be permissible for you to uncover your hair in the presence of the male physician.
If possible, try to find a female technician /physician that performs this procedure.
However, if you are unable to find a female technician, and your husband is requesting for this procedure to be done as well, then in this case, one may proceed with this procedure.
Similarly, if one is unmarried, and feels like it will be a deterrent in finding a spouse, then one may proceed with this procedure.
However, in both scenarios, one must search for a female technician first and the uncovering of the hair should be restricted to the need (not longer).
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
